XFV-1
Scratchbuilt.
XFV-1
Scratchbuilt. Like most baby boomers I was really taken with the pogo planes
(the odd U.S. VTOL planes of the 1950's), so many years ago I made a model of
the XFV-1 out of wood and the traditional scrounged-up ingredients. Then a few
years ago somebody brought out a kit of the XFV-1 so I bought and built that
one too and it's always sobering to see how much slicker and more professional
the eastern-european injection molded kit is than my cheesy old scratchbuilt,
which was cobbled up with a 3-view drawing from a magazine. These are 1/72 models,
6 feet on the real airplane equals one inch on the model so these are appearing
somewhat larger than life on your computer screen and it magnifies all my errors,
glue blobs, paint runs, cracked and missing decals and years of repairs and
neglect.
