Bell
X-5 Swingwing

Bell X-5 Swingwing. First flown on 20 June 1951, the X-5 was built to investigate the aerodynamic effects of changing the degree of sweepback during flight. Its variable-geometry wings could be swept back at angles varying from 20 degrees to 60 degrees. 2 X-5s were built. It was a development of a 1945 Messerschmitt jet fighter project.
