Douglas X-3 Stiletto

Douglas X-3 Stiletto. Turbojet-powered research aircraft first flown on 20 October 1952. It was first used to investigate efficiency of turbojet engines and short-span double-wedge wings and tailplanes and to collect information on thermodynamic heating at high altitudes and speeds up to Mach 3. Data collected was later used in the Lockheed F-104 Starfighter program.
