Hienkel
HE-178.

Hienkel HE-178. The world's first jet aircraft. The jet engine was developed in 2 countries simultaneously by 2 different individuals, Pabst Von Ohain in Germany and Frank Whittle in England. The HE-178 flew more than a year before the Gloster Whittle, so pride of place for the world's first jet definitely goes to the HE-178. Unfortunately, it accomplished this in the service of a regime that murdered millions, destroyed Europe and is now synonymous with towering evil. The original HE-178 was given to an air museum in Berlin where it was destroyed in a wartime bombing raid.
